On September 29th, 2020 Digital KORU delivered an educational webinar for parents and caregivers of school-age students across the Caribbean who are using Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams in their schools.
We thank Microsoft Caribbean for sponsoring this event. We also appreciate the promotional support provided by UNESCO’s Kingston, Jamaica office and by the Aspire Artemis Foundation. We invite you to access here the recording of this event. This webinar was presented as a contribution to parents and students who are transitioning from face to face to blended-online learning in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This webinar helped parents and caregivers of school-age students familiarize themselves with the Microsoft Teams app, which many of their children are using to take blended or distance-education classes in public and private schools. Microsoft Teams is designed to make teamwork and classwork easier, in any modality. We demonstrated how to access Teams sites created for classes, how to download educational material, turn-in assignments, communicate with teachers and school staff. We sought to empower parents and caregivers to support their children in using this platform to facilitate their children’s learning process.
Dr. Eliut Flores, CEO of Digital KORU and tenured professor at the Graduate School of Information Science and Technologies of the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras, delivered the lecture. He discussed how to build a virtual classroom using Microsoft Teams and how to integrate additional applications provided by Microsoft 365 and other developers into the virtual classroom. This topic was discussed from the perspective of the
opportunities and challenges of teaching and learning in the Caribbean. Participants asked questions through the live chat and Dr. Flores and his team answer them. The webinar was delivered in English.
Digital KORU stands ready to collaborate with your country’s educational system and with individual K-12 and higher education institution to design and implement Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) strategies and adoption and change management programs to improve learning outcomes in any modality: blended, hybrid, and distance learning. Please contact us at [email protected] to start the dialog.
